  • Ground Level Team is coming up aces for 50th Anniversary.

I have to hand it to Programming, Marketing and FOH this year. They have pulled out all the stops and gone big for the 50th anniversary of our Summer Classic Series.

Preroll content is top notch including two season teasers (May-June and July-August), as well as 8 high production value documentary style interviews to produce "Memories" clips from series founders, Directors, and families of long time original projectionists. Compared to recent past seasons where it's just a series of film upcoming slides, and a very tired season sponsor ad (unchanged for years).

May-June Bumper is here, but they even gave us a flat cinema aspect version, they are learning!

The first of the "Memories" clips is viewable on instagram (albeit in less impactful square format compared to the scope originals).
But includes amusing projection anecdotes, as do a few others not posted yet.

Series website design is pretty top of class too this time, posters for every film, viewable by screening dates or grouped by curated theme.

Season Opening with Casablanca & Top Hat on 35mm TOMORROW.

Walter passed away in our booth during R1 of Casablanca on 35mm, they only discovered there was a problem when R2 did not start. If any Paramount ghost stories have any truth, tomorrow is THE NIGHT.
His shrine will be fully stocked with snickers bars as is custom for sure. His memorial wreath still hangs upstage center backstage.

    Bravo!

Opening weekend was a smash, two 1300 seat sold out evenings. Was payed quite the compliment by our film programmer, claiming that our Casablanca 35mm screening was the best he's seen in our theatre, and that is with a print the studio was grading as a 2(minus). Apparently all that tune-up work is paying dividends.

Our no. 1 projector intensity flicker is gone too, the overdue lamphouse alignment (and perhaps supply tuning) appeared to do the trick.

Rodriguez got his star in the pavement out front tonight, and joined us for the ceremony, Sin City on DCP, and QA after. Star Wars IV on DCP tomorrow to look forward to, and Phantom of The Paradise. Good times.

      Hah!

They even partnered with a local brewery to release a Summer Classic series official beer! Only found out cause a photoshoot for the beverage occurred in the booth yesterday during doors.

      Full of surprises this season.
