Under the direction of the Sr. Public Programmer, the Sr. Studio Projectionist operates and manages the Billy Wilder Theater projection booth and contingent areas: baffle room, av control/compressor room, lobby/monitor area, that provide screening presentation for the UCLA Film & Television Archive and the Hammer Museum. Standard duties include weekly projection equipment operation, management of maintenance, additional help, and safety guidelines. The Projectionist works closely with Public Programmers to coordinate online screenings for the Film & Television Archive's Virtual Screening Room, which provides live and pre-recorded film screening events through its online platforms as part of the Archive's public programs.
UCLA Film & Television Archive, a department of the UCLA Library, collects moving images as works of art and as social and historical documents, restores and preserves moving images for current and future generations, curates collections, programs and events using moving images to advance knowledge, and provides access to moving images for purposes of research, education and enjoyment. The Archive's collections consist of over 500,000 holdings dating from the dawn of cinema to the present and cover a broad-spectrum of content from major Hollywood studios films and network television shows to independent productions and news footage.
The Public Programs unit of the Film & Television Archive conceptualizes live and virtual cinema programs for both in-theater exhibition and virtual screening platforms in a year-round capacity. Public Programs coordinates an on-going calendar of screening events of contemporary, historical and archival films curated from various sources, including the Archive's various collections as well as local & international studio & independent film archives and contemporary international distributors. Public Programs is responsible for programs from ideation through research to execution and works closely with the Motion Picture and Television Offices, Research and Study Center, and Library Communications and Marketing to fulfill the Archive's mission to advocate for the accessibility of all moving images in all formats.
