I have recently installed a new "advanced laser source" presentation projector at a venue (12k lumen type), and we were stunned by the image on screen. They're also in the process of ordering an SP 2k laser for their cinema heritage use (it used to be a 1941 movie theatre, before closed and from there on on used as a multi purpose venue), with a weekly showing of a new movie.
I fear, the image will be inferior, and will be in trouble.
On the other hand, Christie 4K RGB and UHC lenses offered a fantastic image, on the same level, the previously installed Sony 515 in freshly serviced condition did.
Policy with old projectors, they can be used to gain spares and keep existing ones alive, but not to be used as machines in the competition, even if this is a student film club or nonprofit theatre, and definitively no small independent currently still using non DCI alternatives.
