  • OSRAM XBO 3000W DHP L/XL in Barco 32B

    Hi,

Has anyone used a 3000W DHP L or XL or even 2000W DHP L lamp in a Barco 32B?
I am confused by some info flying around in the web. And cannot get an answer from Osram.
3000W DHP L / XL are listed in barco website as supported by 32B's.
But there are no fitting cathode / anode adapters.
It used to be in older Osram brochures, listed also in cross reference lists as supported by 32B's but you need to contact Osram for correct adapter...

Has anyone faced some issue like this?

    Regards,
    Nerijus

The size of the lamps you can use and the adapter(s) necessary are dictated by which size lamphouse you are deploying.

There are two different sizes of xenon lamphouse for the Barco B chassis. They are called "S/M" and "XL." The 32B comes with an XL, but you can use an S/M if you have one, which would support different and smaller lamps.

The XL lamphouse will support lamps down to 3K, but those are DHS-OFR lamps from Osram, not the DHP that you mentioned.

In an S/M lamphouse, an Osram 3K DHP lamp would use cathode adapter R865555K. Same for a 2K.

Do not install a lamp into a lamphouse with which it is not compatible.

I had this problem a while back when the reflector in a SM lamphouse cracked. The customer had an XL one sitting unused (the projector it was originally in was converted to laser). Per the service manual, you need an adapter at both the cathode and anode end to put a Ushio DXL-30BAF in an XL lamphouse, specifically R859984K and R859985K (don't know about Osram). Problem was that CInionic have neither available, and no idea if and when they ever will.

The XL lamphouse could take lamps down to 2KW. In fact, I do have a site that runs a UXL-20SC for 2D and DXL-60BA for 3D (Dolby 3D). The XL lamphouse came from the same line as the DP100 projector...which tried to be as accommodating with existing "film" lamps as well as the new, more efficient digital ones. So, there were a lot of adapters available. In fact, the 32B shipped with a whole collection of adapters.

Oddly, I've found that the UXL-20SC (and the whole "SC" line up) to be incredibly efficient in the XL lamphouse...as efficient as a "digital" 2K lamp. The only "mod" I did was to use the SM's anode adapter block (the one with the 8mm cap screw) and then use nichrome wire to bind up (shorten) the UXL-20's anode cable.

But, back on topic. Yes, you'd need the correct lamp adapters to get the arc to sit in the correct relationship of the reflector (and also span the distance to the UV-blocker/anode support.

Don't I know it! We have several bags of them at the shop, minus the ones that were actually used on the installs ... and none of the little bastards were the ones I needed to put that Ushio 3kW lamp into an XL lamphouse!
