  • Laser projector safety requirements

Hello everyone, as we are moving into a new cinema space, I have a question over risk group 3 laser safety requirements.

We have Christie 2310 RGBe, and two NEC 1202L projectors (both Risk Group 3 if I've done my research correctly)

After touring the new cinema building I have some real concerns over the height at which the projection ports are installed at.

Can anyone tell me what the requirements are for laser projectors?

While in the hazard distance (determined by the potential lumen output of the projector combined with the lens in use), you need to have image beam 2.5m above the finished floor for an indoor venue (it is 3m, I believe for an outdoor venue to allow for people that may be artificially tall by being on top of something or riding on a parent's shoulders...etc.).

Each manufacturer of projector's will have charts for the hazard distance for each projector/lens combination. My guess on the NEC is going to be closer to 2-2.5m in front of the lens and the Christie may be 2.5 - 3m.
