Surround Height Placement Consideration

Hello everyone!
I'm curious, what are the considerations when deciding whether to put side surround speakers at fixed elevation from the floor or in a straight line towards the screen? Straight line towards the screen is mentioned in Atmos guidelines as the preferred method for new Atmos install, but I've seen theaters that are not interested to install Atmos also uses this method. What gives?

Generally you follow the slope... But depending on the width of the theater, that could change, and so could the required number of surround speakers and their height. I used to have all my speaker layouts done by QSC since I used their speakers pretty much exclusively. They did a great job. I checked most auditoriums after they were up and running with an SPL meter walking the room. The SPL was consistand with in the specified area.
