  • GDC SR1000 - show just stops (twice now)

Twice now, my server has just crashed mid-playlist for no reason. At first I was blaming a certain Captain America trailer because it stopped right after that both times, but now I'm not so sure.

One of the items is the Deadpool "silence your cellphone" clip. It has a "red" trailer tag on the front of it due to lots of bleeped language. I want to show the cellphone trailer but I don't want to show the red-tag, since I'm playing it ahead of the Deadpool/Wolverine feature and it isn't necessary.

So, I put a "start time" of 0:05 on the CPL in the playlist. At the end, where the movie opening date appears, I put a dowser cue to cut that part off. It came out great and gets a lot of laughs.

I've run this playlist 7 times now and twice, the playback has stopped and locked up the system at the 0:05 point of that Deadpool cellphone tag. The only way out of it is to reboot the server, at which point it picks up where it left off with no problem.

Anyone have any ideas on why this is happening intermittently and if there's anything I can do to prevent it? I do have a "lights off" cue at 0:06 so maybe two cues a second apart might be tripping things up?

I've asked our tech about this and he sent logs to GDC and they didn't find anything unusual.

Looks like you caught a genuine bug(tm), congratulations! In this particular case it looks like you triggered some nice race condition and that has nothing to do with the colors of your cues...

It doesn't inspire much confidence that GDC wasn't able to figure out what's wrong from the logs you submitted though.

If you apply the same cue configuration to another piece of content other than that Deadpool Cellphone tag-on, can you replicate the problem?

I'd call GDC directly about it... If this isn't a problem they can figure out from the logs, they may swap out the server, or at least send you another temporarily to help sort things out. Also, are you still using the Eprad automation? Or is the server doing the stop function?

Update: After this second occurrence, our technician sent the logs to GDC again and this time, they claim to have found something. They were logged into the system today to tinker with it, I'm not sure exactly what they did but it played perfectly tonight. I'll update here again if I find out more info.
