  • Dpl image loss error on christine projector

    Hello everyone,

How are you guys? I have a question that I hope you guys can help me answer ^^

My cinema uses a Christie projector and a Dolby server. Currently, it is experiencing an image loss error when running a movie on the server. Every time a new movie file is played, the projector screen will go grey-white even though the movie sound is still playing normally.

I had to go into the projector settings and reset the DLP, then the movie image would appear on the screen. Does anyone know how to fix this error? Please help me.

Sincerely thank you, everyone. Have a nice day ^^

The cat862 in the DSS server is known for suffering what's been called "White Screen of Death". That was addressed/mitigated at some point via software - I didn't know one could restore the picture via "reset DLP".

What software are you running on your DSS server? And what are those errors the projector is mentioning?

      Hello Sir,

I mean every time I press play movie on Dolby server on a screen will appear "White Screen of Death" error. Currently, to fix it I have to reset dlp on Christie projector then the movie image will be shown normally. This causes delay and discomfort when showing a movie. I hope someone can help me completely fix this error and find the cause

I'm running that server manually and on the projector, there is no error message

If you click on the white Dolby logo (bottom left) the software version will appear. The big numbers show the main version. Something like 4.9.5 (2).
On the projector, click menu -> about. Latest versions should be:
        Package 4.8.1(3)
        LD: 1.8(24)
        ICP: 4.5(454)

Your projector is running the latest version but your DSS server should be upgraded. Latest is 4.9.7 (1) I think. That might not cure the issue, it looks like some sort of communication error inside the projector to me. But I might be wrong.
However, for this upgrade you also need a KDM (if I read the release notes correctly). This KDM is issued by Dolby and they will likely charge you something like $50. Without that KDM you will have a failed upgrade (version mismatch & no show whatever).
Do you have a Dolbycustomer account or a service company/dealer nearby?

Dolby "fixed" the white screen of death with 4.8.5 so that's a bummer. You can still try to update (see Magnus's warning above) but it might not cure the problem.

When those things happen a good starting point is to try to run test patterns and different inputs. That will allow you to narrow down where the issue is. That is, if you see an image via DVI, then you know that the engine, formatters and likely ICP are good.

The fact that you have to reset te "DLP" seems to point at the projector rather than the server.
