    I know you think you're trying to be cute, but in most servers that will still take more time than making at most two cuts and ONE splice in 35mm. I've repaired full film breaks on a platter system in 45 seconds or less, including a proper rethread.

    As Elia Orselli said it is a multi step process at least with a Doremi:

    Doremi has a skip to marker macro action that will do the same thing. You have to create a macro containing that action and define a marker name.
    Then you'll create an SPL with a black before the CPL and place the macro on that black clip. On the main CPL you will have to add a marker with the name defined previously.
    Those few steps will take more time than cutting out 20 seconds of film.

    And this: "Note that this will work only once per SPL execution. If you want to test, be sure to eject the playlist and load it again for the show"

    If I am interpreting that correctly, it is a one shot deal and would need to be re-entered for each show. (Or it means that you can only do the action once within a SPL, but it will be stored as part of said SPL until deleted.)

    Either way, to make sure it works you need to eject and reload the playlist to test, taking more time (Thankfully only seconds in many cases, but still...)

    Edited to add: No matter what, my main point was and is that many tasks were a lot simpler in the film days, and a lot of show stoppages or errors were often (but not always) faster and easier to fix. No worrying about random software glitches, freezups, or mysterious black box failures derailing a show. We did gain less physical labor and in some cases better presentations, but as countless comments and some threads have proven, theatres/chains with a history of "Film Done Wrong" are STILL doing it, but in digital.

      That's generally how this stuff goes... Imagine you organize a premiere showing of a movie production: You set deadlines of when stuff needs to be shipped, in order to be neatly QC-ed, kinks worked out, packaged and shipped.

      In practice, if you're lucky, you get the FINAL DCP that needs to be shown on the day of the premiere. I've seen materials arrive some random export format... I've even given Avid Media Composer project files... without assets on USB stick...

      Usually, you receive one or two USB sticks with some random shit on it that someone came up with, like a greeting like in this movie, or a thanks, in memorian or whatnot... sometimes even in PowerPoint or KeyNote format... often with clip-arts stolen from the Interwebs with the watermarks still visible...

      Not-so-long-ago we had someone doing a presentation before the actual movie, the slides arrived while he went on stage...

      Then you think this only works this way at those indie movie studios, until you realize that it's often worse at the big boys. No wonder they have their networks hacked every other day and their movies stolen before they even go out on streaming...

        Macros strategically inserted at the desired times. Dowser closed, mute audio, dowser open, unmute audio. Use a black screen clip for a short buffer if necessary. No more announcement, just a few moments of blissful silence.

          Cheers Elia and Rick. Pretty sure I've got a Doremi macro for that now... to jump to a custom marker from a black. Will have to wait for a film day to test.
          Dowse, Mute, (delay01), PAUSE, (delay01), Skip to SPL Marker, (delay01), PLAY, Open, Un-Mute.

          How much delaying I really need TBD. Dowser lags a bit sometimes. Outside of the OP new-release cast thank you phenomenon, plenty of classics (especially anniversary restorations) are shipped with a studio intro too, but we do a live intro for most, so need for that fluff.

            With reference to the thread the other day about logos, Transformers One sure must be pushing for a record on that too. If I had realized there would be so many I would have counted them. There's certainly an endless stream of logos at the start of this one.

              We're running the movie and the greeting seemed loud on our system but not unbearable. We kept it at our normal levels. Total runtime on the version we received is 1:44:12 with the greeting hard-locked to the beginning of the film.

                On a GDC server you can set the start point (and end point) of any item in a playlist. It's under the Edit button on any playlist item -- the same button you click to add cues. Then you just click on "Start/End times" at the top and enter your preferred times.
