We switched from an NEC 2000 xenon machine to a Barco SP4K laser, which we have been running at 55% since it was installed 14 months ago. I'm still impressed by how good the image looks compared to the xenon, especially in the contrast.
The NEC, even though it was vented through the roof, had a large exhaust panel across the back which spewed enough heat to make the booth noticeably warmer even in the winter. The laser machine runs so cool, even un-vented, that the booth now feels downright cool even in summer.
I haven't noticed much difference in our utility bill (same as with Frank, probably) -- the rates have gone up over the past year, and the booth is tied with the rest of the building anyway, so it's hard to make an actual comparison.
