      I don't think the JSD-80 has logging.

One week later update... reading through some of these comments whilst on vacation, I came back in on Thursday night and turned the output wattage down yet again to 0.1 watts. So far this weekend, we've run 4 shows through the JSD-60 without a single audio drop out. Might just be a fluke thing, but i do suspect it was the new high gain antenna with a turned up "way too high" FM transmitter.
Thank you all for all your help.

Great! I hope it keeps working. You may want to add the ferrite beads to cables connecting to the JSD-60. The RF interference possibility was an afterthought on my part, and that was for the JSD-100. I'm glad it appears to be a solution.

Well, it looks like my "audio drop out" issue isn't entirely related to RF power output of the FM transmitter. Playing Hotel Transylvania tonight, the sound dropped out twice. Same 4 second interval, but this time i was in the booth when it happened. While it was going through it's total silence episode, the "Bypass Mode" red led was flashing, and the display screen was scrolling through the various input / output modes (COAX, 8CH, TOS LINK, COAX, OPTION) then finally returned to 8CH. I pushed the "OPTION" button to take it out of "8CH" and it has remained in "OPTION" ever since with no drop outs. Probably going to call American Cinema Equipment on Monday to have them dial in and pull the logs.
I thought we had found the culprit, but I guess not.

Rick Cohen, text me the info on that possible spare if you can. You have my number.

On the JSD-100 that had the RF issue, it only occurred on loud audio. It would be interesting to know if the issue comes up at the same point in the movie every time which would again lead us to loudness versus RF. If you can reliably make it fail and then run with the transmitter off and see if it fails, that would be interesting. Also, the log in the JSD-60 is available by pointing a web browser at the unit.

              Good luck!

I was able to pull the logs on the JSD-60 tonight. It looks like it's doing a system reset at random times. Temperatures look high as well.

Temperature does seem high. Can cooling be improved?

I can possibly replace that 1RU vent panel with a fan unit, or rearrange some components in the rack to movie it farther away from any heat sources.

as fun as the CD based DJ setup looks... do you still use it? I would have thought everyone with needs like that switched to software/mp3 based now on a laptop.

Seems like lots of rack real-estate if you don't use it.

Actually we do use it every night. We use "Drive-In Radio" subscription music service for our pre-show music (2 hours each night). I used to be a "wedding DJ" in my life before the drive-in, so i several rack mount dual CD players not doing anything anymore.
My rack has a knock-out in the bottom specifically made for a fan. I ordered a fan earlier tonight to install later this week.

I'd get a space below the JSD60 too. Otherwise, it is the hottest thing in the stack of what is below it since it gets all of the heat from below plus what it contributes itself. A space above and below would be preferred. Moving air will also be improved if there is space above and below.

The rapid changes of internal temperatures tells me that some component in the unit is running abnormally hot, which will cause any borderline electrolytic caps to change values (power supply?) and cause the bypass and resets. (And bad electrolytics causing excess ripple will cause chips to overheat and erratic behavior as well...so start with a full recap of the power supply at the absolute minimum.)

If it were me, I'd pull the unit, recap it, fire it up and check the entire board with a FLIR to pinpoint what is running hot. I am willing to bet the repair will be relatively simple.

I'd also reset the clock in it to get the dates and time correct.
