  • IMB Error

    Hi all,

I've got an intermittent projector problem that is stumping me.
Maybe once a day the projector reboots itself mid show (or sometimes when a show isn't even playing) and then restarts right where it left off.
I've tried reseating and de-oxit'ing every possible board and connection but can't figure it out.

Its an NEC 900C with a GDC SX-3000 IMB
Error code from DCC log says - 500:IMB Comm Fail (046000:Tout=7000)

That error is followed by the typical marriage fail error, but then upon reboot it remarries automatically and starts movie right where it left off.
The lights do stay red though and the error shows on the projector pad as well.
Of course the annoying thing is its intermittent, it can happen twice or day or not happen at all for two days ....very frustrating.

    Any ideas ?

    Thanks !!!

From what you write, I can't be sure whether it's the projector or the server/IMB that reboots. If it's the latter, you might get more insight from the server's logs, instead of the DCC's error.
I have no experience with GDC products. So, you won't get a reliable hint from me, but if it was a common PC, my bet would be either on the RAM, or the power supply.

My money would be on a failing tamper detect microswitch in the card cage of the NC900. IIRC, there are two related to the option slots: one is at the front of the card cage, near the bottom, on the right, but the other is bottom back left. If the lever is just bent very slightly and/or the assembly has worked a little loose, it might be fixable without having to disassemble around the card cage. But if you end up needing to replace the switches, you (or the tech you hire to do it for you, if you go that route) are in for a highly unpleasant few hours, I'm afraid.
