I just commissioned a 4K-RGB projector on a 20-foot, or so, screen with an Ultra-High Contrast lens. While it did take a bit of optimization for corner-to-corner focus...the end result was as close to film-like that I've seen. And by film-like, I mean comparing to EK (off of OCN)...not some dupe print. It was on a matte-white screen with a 6000:1 contrast ratio system (and RGB lasers). I think any movie that shows in that room will easily be seen to be better than the typical show.
To James' point, this room is a screening room and not one that depends on patrons to justify its business model. However, the projector was not from some post-production line up either. I was very impressed and that isn't something easy to do, nowadays. It was a Christie CP4415-RGB. The screen was above average and 4-5 times that of a typical cinema screen (Stewart Snomatte 100).
