Since we're talking DTS-stuff, I was helping to sort of inventory and decommission a film
& video screening room here in San Francisco, that will probably be permanently closing
their doors. I've already bought some of their stuff and made offers for some other items,
but here's something I found stuffed waaaay up on the top shelf of a booth-closet, behind
some boxes of spare parts and bottles of rancid intermittent oil:

It appears to be an unused "DTS Technician's Installation And Alignment Kit"
    DTS_KitBox.jpg

    WoW!
    DTS_KitBox2.jpg

Inside are 4 Disks (encased in those old style "disk carriers" that make them look
like oversized versions of the those old 3¼in computer disks
    .) The disks are labeled:
DTS SETUP DISK - REV C
    DTS 6 TRACK DEMONSTRATION D-1
    DTS STEREO DEMONSTRATION 2

and the ever popular and elusive 6-track EMPIRICAL TEST DISK (with data sheet!)

There's also a 1,000ft roll of test film, still in the original shrink-wrap and lab tape,
along with a stern letter warning that "under no circumstances is this film to be
exhibited to a paying audience without prior written permission from Universal
    Pictures."

Also in the box were several Odyssey-type adapter break-out boards, a couple of
short ribbon cables, and several pages of DTS installation instructions & diagrams.
A packing slip inside the box is dated 1993. The entire package seems to be unused.

At the time I found this, I'd already bought over $1200 worth of stuff that I really
have no use for and no place to put, so they threw the DTS box and some other
goodies in for free. (Like a complete, 'new in the box' "Zipper Changeover Repair
Kit"- with a couple of new coils, plunger arms, flexible dowser linkage, & more
    !) Wow!
--> So, has anybody seen one of these before, or perhaps one the 'old time installers'
here can tell more about it.

I have received almost the same kit from a retired technician a while ago but without the nice DTS box and the breakout boards.

The roll of film is probably a brand new "Buzz and Bill Show"

        >WoW! It looks like you've got a few more disks than what was in my box . I might unseal the 35mm film
roll to see what it is. We've only got 70mm DTS readers on my system at work, so I could run the film, but
not play the sound unless there's an optical track on it too.(ad then it wouldn't be DTS!) I did find an old
set of 35mm DTS readers in a box here, but they're very dirty & dusty, and almost look like they spent the
last decade sitting in a musty barn. One of them is in really bad condition- - the rollers barely turn. . I'm
not sure I'd want to spend time cleaning them up & mounting them and trying to get them to work just
to test that roll of film. I'm only hanging on to them cuz I'm guessing that some of the internal electronics
are swappable with the 70mm readers, if I ever have a problem & need spare parts.
