  • Dts xd10

Hi Guys I have several XD-10's that have content on them I was wondering if there is anyway of copying the sound track content off onto a server via FTP maybe? I am aware that the operating system is Linux.

Yes, you need to get the HDDs out and connect them to either Linux or Windows to mount them. These are IDE drives so you need an IDE to SATA adapter or an accordingly old computer.
Unfortunately the files are stored by their md5 hash values all in one folder (\contents\data) and with separated headers. I have a script that converts XD content files back to regular discs, if you can upload an image of the HDDs I extract the files.

Also document what you have ST wise first, chances are Brad or others can get them to you via direct inquiry if the migration effort is not complete in time.

Do the files have any form of file name that links them to the title?

No the filename is the hash of the file itself, an unorganized mess in the contents folder:

Thanks Michael, Are the trailers stored in the same directory?

Yes, features and trailers all in that folder.

Michael, how much wok is required to convert these back to .AUD files? Is it just repackaging the data back into an .AUD and putting all the serial and reel information back in?

Basically, the SND file is a typical AUD/AUE file even with the header included. The HDR file is a XD10 specific header containing a timestamp along with regular AUD header data.
Check the header for it's SN at 80-81 [dec(val(80))+dec(val(81))*256], place the file in a separate folder by SN or/and title to prevent multiple files with the same filename when renaming them. Get the reel number at byte 78 [dec(val(78))]. Check byte 92, if it's hex(1) then the file is enrypted (AUE), else decrypted (AUD). Technically you should also check byte 82 for the number of tracks which is 5 for a regular DTS soundtrack. Rename the file accordingly to RxT5.AUD (or AUE if encrypted) and you end up with the original disc without trailers. Btw when it comes to XD10s there is no such thing as merged trailer files, instead each trailer has it's own file like a feature reel, assigned as reel 14.

Depending on the number of files on the HDD this process can be a pain without a script.
So for the sake of preserving as many soundtracks as possible unknowingly hiding on XD10s out there I offer to recover the data of any XD10 HDD back to original DTS-discs to anybody! Just PM me.

For moving titles between two xd10 system drives... is it just a matter of copying the snd+hdr files over between two contents folders of two mounted drives? (if restoration to back to AUD files is not needed).

Just checking cause this one is still on my todo list to get a few old titles off the old HDD onto the new SSD.

Ryan, you can copy the '\contents\data\*' to another pre-installed drive but you need to delete the following files on the 2 partitions 'contents' and 'rwm' on the target drive if they exist:
                        • \contents\xfer\contents.xml
                        • \contents\xfer\index.html
                        • \rwm\contents.* (all files matching this string)
                        • \rwm\continfo* (all files matching this string)
                        • \rwm\details.menu
                        • \rwm\list.dbg
These files will be recreated during the next boot with the new content recognized.

Hi Michael I take it that the .html file refers to the list of features that have been injested into the xd10. Is this what drives the display on the front panel?

Yes, all entries with status "Ok" in the file \contents\xfer\index.html show the current content ingested. The front display content menu actually takes it's data from the contents.xml

Cheers for that. I assume if I am trying to merge two libraries I just do the same but don't delete any of the contents/data files in the copy.
