  • KINO Rotterdam looks for a Head of Film projection (35mm/70mm)

Starting early 2025, KINO Rotterdam is looking for an enthusiastic individual with a passion for film and experience in audiovisual (film) technology to lead our analog and digital film technology department. Extensive knowledge and experience with analog film projection are essential.

As Head of Film projection, you will manage our team of experienced (film) technicians to ensure the successful execution of digital and analog film screenings, as well as events and venue rentals in our cinema halls. You will meticulously handle 35mm and 70mm film prints and coordinate the team and logistics. Additionally, you will manage digital film screenings via the TMS and oversee the Building Management System (BMS). You will participate in the management team, which includes film programmers, the head of events, and the head of hospitality, to ensure smooth operations at KINO.

We are open to part-time arrangements, with responsibilities shared among multiple technicians.

    Your Responsibilities
Projecting, setting up, dismantling, and organizing the transport of 35mm and 70mm films.
► Maintaining analog and digital projection equipment.
► Managing digital content (film files, security keys).
► Coordinating, scheduling, and supervising KINO’s other film technicians.
► Rotating on-call troubleshooting services during evenings/weekends to support floor managers with technical issues for regular screenings via remote servers and TMS.
► Initiating and coordinating (cinema) technical projects (e.g., film festivals, maintenance, upgrades, improvement projects).
► Collaborating with programmers to promote KINO’s film projection to the audience and contributing to classic film screenings and print searches.
► Ensuring an optimal film experience from a technical perspective by working with the Facilities Manager to improve other technical aspects of the building.

    Your Profile
► Experience with cinema technology, both analog and digital.
    ► Stress-resistant and flexible.
► We estimate this role at a higher vocational (HBO) level. However, candidates with a vocational education (MBO) background or a lateral entry route are welcome to apply. Basic IT knowledge (e.g., computer systems, networks, VPN connections) is required in such cases.
    ► Strong problem-solving skills.
► Self-teaching: capable of reading manuals and applying solutions within set frameworks.
    ► A professional, customer-friendly attitude.
► Eager to learn and proactive in keeping up with developments in your field.

    Preferred (but not required)
► Experience with connecting and (limited) sound mixing for microphones and instruments at live music events.
► Experience with 16mm or 35mm film projection
► Willingness to introduce films to the audience.

    What We Offer
► A varied role with room for ideas and personal input.
► A pleasant work environment in an informal company with an enthusiastic team.
    ► Excellent secondary benefits.
    ► Competitive salary.
► Opportunities for growth within KINO’s team, partner cinemas and festivals.
