  • Connection problem with Dolby CP650 and LAp top

    Good morning.
I just changed my laptop and I am installing the basic programs to link to my computers.
I currently have a problem with the CP650 software where I cannot connect my computer with the usb/sr232 cable to the processor.

I already installed the cable driver and in the device manager it detects the COM port but I can't get it to work.
    This LAptop has windows 11pro.
I don't know if there is any place where I grant permissions to make the connection between the laptop and the CP650.

I hope someoane can give me some clues in order to fix this.

    Thanks

The CP-650 configuration software don't work on a Windows 11 operating system. I use an Oracle VirtualBox virtual machine with a Windows XP installed to use the CP-650 configuration software on a Windows 10 laptop.

      I've used a Win10 laptop with the CP650 software without issue. I have not tried a Win11.

This USB to Serial adapter has worked on every device I've tried (though you MUST install its driver) (Gearmo brand model FTDI-LED).

The FTDI chips are a very common USB/UART bridge chip. I used the Silicon Labs CP2102 in several USL products, but the FTDI chips have drivers already in many operating systems. I use the FT231XS-U in https://w6iwi.org/rtty/DspTU2/ .

I have not tried our win11 machine but it was on my todo list (or maybe I tried it and forgot my results already). We also use win10 and FTDI chipset adapter cable (although We still have the former WinVista machine functioning too). Make sure the com port it is creating are in a lower number range, I believe WinDRAS can only see 1-4 if I recall? I had some trouble before I switched to the FTDI adapter myself.

My Windows 11 (24H2) laptop works just fine with this adapter (I think it's the same one that Steve linked to) connecting to CP650s; no additional driver needed. You do need to run the CP650 app with administrator privileges, if I remember correctly.

The RS232 interfaces on CP650s occasionally die: doesn't matter if you plug into the front or the back. I've experienced this with two units, now.

I just ordered the adapter on Amazon. Meanwhile I remembered that I have an old computer with Windows 7 and with that I connected

I just received the adapter and it works perfect on Windows 11pro.

                  Thanks

I've tried with two different FTDI USB-RS232 adapters in two different Windows 10 laptops, and it has worked in both. It had never worked for me before.
