  • Deluxe is mass-emailing a DolReMi certificate expiration reminder

It appears that around the middle of last week, Deluxe emailed this to pretty much everyone who is registered with them to receive DCPs:

    image.png

We've been inundated with "Do I need to do anything?" type queries from customers as a result. Most of them are from the operators of older IMS3000s that haven't been updated since installation, or the operators of IMS2000s or earlier that are only used for HDMI and don't play DCPs at all (museum and university theaters; those sorts of places). This is to be expected, given that any IMS2000s or earlier that are regularly used to play DCPs will have stopped working at the end of 2023, which will have resulted in a tech being called in to update them at that point. I did around a couple of dozen in January 2024.

So just as a heads up to service techs, if you are currently receiving a barrage of queries about this issue, this is the reason why.

    Hi Leo,
Yes, I have had a number of calls here in New Zealand. Including from customers with GDC servers as well. I Re-Certed all the Doremi Servers I look after at the time, prior to the RTC Trust issue in 2023. There are times like this, where I wish they would just email the Service Companies / Integrators, it would save a lot of phone calls and explaining the same thing over and over.

    Cheers Fraser

Our DCP2K4 needs this patch, but because we play DCPs with it often enough, we are well aware (there is a nag screen on both web ui and console). Trick is getting the files, as our customer dolby login doesn't seem to be enough. Have to talk to an integrator, which we haven't dealt with in eons. Maybe I should just ask the dolby techs that are here for the festival to help us. lol

Note: Don't update media block certificates on ShowVault/IMB-SA with Sony projector systems. The Sony SRX-R320 doesn’t support the updated certificates, so updating will lead to a marriage failure.
That's interesting. So anyone with a Sony projector is SOL?

Yes, we got slammed by the emails. We had updated our customers over a year ago on all Doremi products, and their descendants.

This is just one of several reasons why we've ditched the dual Sony projector and
server system in our main auditorium, and will be replacing the Sony projectors &
servers in our other 4 auditoriums with new (Barco Laser) projectors & ICMP's by
this summer. We already migrated off of Sony's TMS some time last year.

I updated a while back for Showvault with Doremi IMB.
              SW and SM match.
But FW I used is 30.11g. Wondering if it matters?

Ok. I was wondering why we have so many calls about this. All supported systems have been updated long ago. The patch is on the ftp site, btw.

It applies to Sony 320 with a Doremi server, it was a special setup. I can't even remember what it was for: HFR? There are not many around (thankfully). This fix does not apply regular Sony machines.

AFAIR this was done for the 320 Dual Projection setups...

I think that would be your best bet. In recent years, Dolby have become increasingly reluctant to allow end users to register to download software/firmware/manuals, taking the line that the integrator or service vendor should act as the intermediary. However, if you email them, they will often give you a download link to what you're after.

In terms of this specific issue, the IMS3000 is a "one and done" upload: I can't think of any way that you could make a mistake and cause damage, unless your IMS3000 hasn't been updated for many years and you need to step through intermediate versions rather than jump straight to 3.5.20 (not sure off the top of my head: would need to check the release notes). For the 2000 and earlier, however, there are three components, followed by the certificate patch itself; two of those components require licenses as well, and everything has to be done in a specific order. Add to that the fact that the IMS2000 and earlier are no longer supported for return-to-base repairs if you do accidentally brick one, and I can understand why Dolby only want service techs doing those.

I suspect that the reason is that there are a significant number of operators of these servers who have had no contact with one since it was installed: the independent theater operating on shoestring margins 300 miles from the nearest service vendor that self maintains, the university arts center with its own tech who isn't trained in the specifics of DCI stuff, etc. etc. In the case of these servers, if they are not updated by November, they will be bricked; hence this final push to reach as many end users as possible who may have slipped through the net so far.

Same here Steve, we had a push to get them all done by Christmas.

We are DCP2000 with Dolphin card. No IMS. Does that put us in the easier or harder to mess up camp? We are current other than this certificate refresh.

That mentioning of Sony in this notice is a very special issue, There once was a special Doremi + external IMB combo modified to be used with Sony SRX-R320 projectors. Not many of them have been sold.

All original Sony server certs are valid into the 2040's.

They are probably sending this out now, because the first cert/date issues of the Doremi Dolphin series (2023/2024 year change) could be fixed afterwards if missed. Now, the second issue will definitely fry all affected media blocks when the update is not done before the end of November.
