  • DCI release and Direct View Displays

    Just now this.
    https://www.dcimovies.com/announceme...licy-statement

    Popped into my Email box.

The text does not make it clear about Direct View Display Systems.
One could read it to say Direct View Display units are no longer accepted.

Does anyone have a clearer view of what's going on here?

It looks like they will stop accepting CTP prior to 1.42. The stop date is earlier for direct view ( April 4, 2025) and later for everything else ( July 20, 2025).

Yes, it basically says they will not accept new direct view display certification based on older CTPs prior to 1.42. All new entries must be tested compliant with at least CTP 1.42.

What does that actually mean? Future DCP playback allowed on projectors only but not on monitors?

No, it's just a certification standard/version. It targets DCI compliance testing for large cinema direct view displays like Samsung Onyx.
New direct view devices intended for DCI cinema use will need to comply at least with testing plan version 1.42, not with older versions. That CTP basically is a book of test procedures that the equipment has to comply with. It complements DCI specification.

Later on, all newly tested equipment, projection AND direct view, have to comply with CTP 1.42 or higher. Pre-Existing equipment does not have to be recertified.

Note, however, that updates to existing equipment MAY require a confidence retest. See https://documents.dcimovies.com/CTP/....2/#sec-11-2-4 .
